Mappa Burl Epoxy River Table

One of the nicest desks we have made so far. This live edge desk is made out of an exotic wood; Mappa burl (black European poplar) imported from Bosnia. We used a contrasting blue metallic epoxy dye with black satin steel legs allowing for a great contrast between the busy top and simple base. Mappa burl can be a hard wood to work with but very rewarding.

Material: Live edge wood mappa burl slabs with a blue metallic epoxy river.  Mappa burl is one of the most sought after material for epoxy river tables due to its unique and wild live edge.  It also features amazing burl grain that is one of a kind.  It is a very desirable wood and often milled into veneer for high end products.  Mappa burl is a beautiful wood but on the softer side of hardwoods.  This is because it’s a poplar species that grows in eastern Europe.

Finish: Rubio Monocoat; A great finish that provides both a uniform sheen and great water/spill protection.  This finish was applied using a Gem buffer, with 2 coats on the top for maximum protection.  Rubio is our go to finish as it’s easy to repair, easy to maintain and always produces an amazing even finish on all our live edge furniture pieces!

Color: Dramatic variations of honey colors with dark burl ‘dots’ and curl rippled grain.
