Curly Maple Live Edge Desk

The focal point of this beautiful desk is its incredible curly grain that projects from the epoxy filled bark inclusion.  The live edge wood on this piece is relatively tame but still adds a touch of nature and organic beauty to the piece. Complementing the top are a set of modern pin hair legs with their slender profile and minimalistic design. The contrast between the rustic charm of the live edge maple and the modern simplicity of the hairpin legs creates a captivating visual balance.

Material: The desk is made out of a live edge sugar maple slab which boasts incredible curl. Wood curl is tight, undulating “ripple” effects in wood generally created by stress and weight on the grain. The base is made out of iron pin hair legs which add a touch modern sleekness to the design.

Finish: As for all our pieces we use rubio monocoat.  This finish is very durable and most impotently achieves a very even finish.  This is very important when working on live edge wood because oftentimes the grain/epoxy/bark inclusions absorb the finish at different rates that can cause an uneven sheen with cheaper less effective finishes. As is evident in this piece, even though the wood slab has an incredible uneven grain (curl) the finished top has even sheen.
