About the wood: Hickory is well known for its incredible hardness.  It is one of the most dense and heavy woods we have here in Ontario. Hickory is characterized by a very pale sapwood with a contrasting light reddish-brown heartwood.  This contrast is why hickory is a very desirable wood for those woodworkers who work with live edge wood slabs.  One downside to this hardness is that it will often develop cracks when drying and may require epoxy repairs.  Overall, hickory is a top choice for those planning to created live edge furniture as it finishes and stains very easily.
